I saw HASS with JP last nite at the Blue Note backing up Janis Siegel. WOW........
Some of the most exciting and musical playing on both bass and drums behind a a vocalist that I have ever seen. HASS and JP have an amazing hook up. I've seen HASS with Will Lee, Anthony Jackson and Richard Bona. All great, but these two had a telepathic connection similar to that of he and Weckl. Except Hass' pocket was deeper in my opinion. At least in that setting.

I was at the first show on Saturday night. You're right on Robert, they had a great hook up, even on the first night. I wonder if they played together before. I'm sure they have.

It is only illegal if you were to sell it for your own profit.
If I paid a handsome cover chrg plus a two drink min [which many times these days can add up to $14-16 or more per couple right there], i don't see how having a documentation of my evening [that I paid for] is considered illegal.
However, the problem starts with those that would boot for personal profit. & as some once said, if it's not a boot of an official, 'professional' release, then it may not be necessarily illegal. I suppose this could be debated for hours.
I have a clear conscience as I've NEVER SOLD a boot to anyone. Freebies as trades only.
However, I am at the stage now where I prefer asking the artist for permission & providing some credentials if nec, even if i feel that i know they will decline. That's better than looking like an ahol to someone you might respect.

If my memory serves me correctly, it's illegal to record anyone without their permission. No matter if you're selling it or not. And I agree, I spent about $300 that night for my wife and I. We had dinner as well. But still. That's some cash even to see HASSY play. HAHA!! I love him though and his pocket with JP was beautiful.
I know if I was playing that night, i wouldn't want anyone taping me without knowing about it. With todays' tech, that recording could spread like crazy. And what does the artist get for it? Nothing.
